Nancy Rupe, 74, Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away on July 1, 2021 at her home under the care of River Valley Hospice.
Nancy Gail Bartling was born on November 24, 1946 in Montrose, CO to Almon and Arlene (Standafer) Bartling. She grew up in Grand Junction, CO living with her mother. As a teenager with Lila and Charlie Knight who raised her as her as their own daughter. When she was 14, she met Galen Rupe and told her sister, “I’m going to marry him”. One week after graduating high school Nancy married Galen. In 1965 they drove to Alaska to begin their adventure. In the 55 years living in Alaska, Nancy and Galen lived in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Palmer and Wasilla with two years living in a remote cabin.
She worked as a telephone operator and then as a very talented floral designer. Later, Nancy worked in their family business, Valley Business Machines. The accomplishment she was most proud of was when her two sons were born. She stayed home and did an amazing job of caring for, teaching and raising her boys.
Nancy was very active in the Nazarene Church teaching Sunday School, Bible School and serving as a youth leader. She was always up for adventure and rode her own motorcycle and snowmobile (or snow machine as known in Alaska), including making a trip on her snowmobile for over 400 miles from Alaska to Dawson City in the Yukon where the temperatures were far below zero.
She is survived by her husband of fifty seven years Galen Rupe; two sons Loren (Krissy Rupe) and Darren (Tamra Rupe); grandchildren Kayleigh Perry, Ryan Rupe, Ashley Schnell and Ryleigh Hayes; and five great grandchildren; brothers Mike McComas and Pat Waller.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 6, 2021 from 3-6pm at Bradbury Memorial Center.
